Absorption Refrigeration Unit (ARU)
The ARU supplies chilled water to the CTGs inlet air cooler to increase the CTG power output during periods of high ambient temperature. Thus, the system minimizes the effects of ambient temperature on the CTG and HRSG, and maximizes power production and power sales. The ARU cools the entering combustion air for the CTG, and as a direct result the CTG produces more power than would have been produced had the air not been cooled. The ARU is designed to provide 800 tons of refrigeration. This is sufficient to cool the CTG inlet air from 104° F to 46° F using 1,550 gallons per minute of 38° F chilled water. The ARU is provided for economic reasons. The unit was designed by Trane. For more information on absorbtion chillers, contact John Hutson |
